Our Favourite Local Brands To Perfect Your Summer Beach Vibes
It’s been a long, cold, winter and we’re just itching to get in the ocean! We’re all about doing things right, so we’ve hunted down some of WA’s best local brands to make your beach season tip-top.
Mother SPF
The most important ingredient to your beach trip? SPF! You gotta slip, slop, slap! We’re passionate about being sunsafe, and Mother has been created by some even more passionate locals. A mineral sunscreen, Mother contains no water – which means no preservatives, emulsifiers or thickeners. Plus, it’s reef-safe, vegan, made using sustainably sourced ingredients, with only a minimal amount of exclusively post-consumer plastic packaging, which is filled using solar power.
We Are Feel Good Inc
We already mentioned how important sunscreen is – and We Are Feel Good Inc. certainly have that on lock with their range of broad-spectrum, nourishing formulation sunscreens. Not only will you be protected from harmful rays, your skin will be soaking up all the skincare goodness.
Avocado Zinc
We will not be silenced when it comes to the importance of sunscreen! Avocado Zinc are producing physical sunscreens with an impressive checklist – all natural ingredients, reef friendly, eco-friendly packaging, made in WA, suitable for sensitive skin and babies, absorbs with no white cast, vegan and cruelty free and wears well under makeup. What’s not to love?
Clover Accessories
Launching her eponymous accessories back in 2009, insta-favourite Clover has stood the test of time. And while we’re in love with her romantic jewellery, come summer we’ll be getting into one of her 100% cotton bucket hats. What, you thought we’d stopped talking about being sun safe? Never! And if you’ve gotta be sun safe, you may as well look good doing it. Available in an array of colours (some are on pre-order), these are your perfect summer accessory.
Kate And Abel
If bucket hats just aren’t your thing, you’ll need a visit to Perth’s own hat mecca, Kate and Abel. As well as the best gift-y, homeware-y stuff, they are also where you’ll get a vast array of hand-made and custom hats. While a dashing trilby probably won’t do you much good at the beach, their range of handwoven Panama hats will have you dreaming of a tropical holiday.
47 Market Street, Fremantle
ga Apparel
Bet you thought we were done talking hats… psych! Not yet. Ga have you sorted for two key beachside accessories, making cute-as-a-button cord bucket hats and pool slides – plus the odd tee to slip on over your swimmers.
Freostyle Turkish Towels
Made of 100% Turkish cotton, Freostyle‘s towels are made to last. Oh-so-soft, these are towels that get even more absorbent with each wash – and their lightweight weave makes them dry out quickly between swims. Their handy built-in-pocket makes the perfect spot to stash your stuff, too.
Ambra Maddalena
We’ve covered the sun safe stuff, we’ve got the towels – what about the bathers (togs, cozzie, swimmers)? Whatever word you use, Ambra Maddalena has some saucy swimmers – from barely-there bikinis to wear-it-anywhere one-pieces. Plus, we have to mention that sheer dress worn by Kylie Jenner herself!
Ceacea Swimwear
Maybe you’re less of a lounge around on the sand-er, more post-run, pre-work dip. Frustrated by both the swimwear and activewear available, Ceacea‘s founder Caroline created her own range that can do both. Wear it to yoga, for a run, then in the water – it’ll perform just as well on land as it will in the water.
South Beach Boardies
It may not seem like it when you’re browsing instagram, but not everyone is into a teeny-tiny bikini. But just because you want a bit more coverage, you can still wear something flattering and fun! Enter South Beach Boardies. The Freo-based, family-run label not only make board shorts from recycled plastics, but donate 5% of all profits to ocean conservation charities. You can even pick up one of those Freostyle towels at their store, too!
11a William Street, Fremantle
Poppy Lissiman
Of course, we couldn’t talk about beach style without mentioning a pair of sunnies by Poppy Lissiman. The local legend turned international success story (and celeb fave), Lissiman’s designs are packed with bold colour and retro fun from head to toe.
Sandbar Co
If you’re really making a day of it, you’ll need somewhere to put your refreshments and snacks, right? Sandbar Co. are revolutionising your beach and picnic game with hand crafted folding tables, perfect for holding your bevvy, a book, or whatever else you need to keep out of the sand.
Hey Bunji
While we love reclining on a soft Turkish towel, sometimes you need a little support. Hey Bunji is a local kickstarter project making super-stylish folding loungers, perfect for taking with you on adventures. Designed, fitted and assembled in Australia, they’re adjustable, made with water-resistant canvas and eco-friendly bamboo. Get on board the kickstarter HERE.
Pelli
You’ve got all these goodies, but how are you going to take them anywhere? Pelli has got bags for every outing – like market totes that will take you from the beach, to lunch, to a quick stop at the grocer, oversized beach bags that’ll fit everything but the kitchen sink, cooler bags for all your snacks, plus entire picnic sets with everything from cutlery, to cheeseboards, insulated tumblers and heaps more. While they’re pretty nifty on their own, each bag you buy is not only made with sustainable practices, but contributes towards cleaning up the ocean.
