Perth may be comparatively small, but our output of superstars in every field is out of control. Right at the top of the pile is TikTok megastar Hannah Balaney. Known by her username @thexhan, at just 20 years old she’s Australia’s most followed TikToker. With a mammoth 17.4 million followers, her dancing (and often-worn bucket hat!) is instantly recognisable – she’s even been immortalised in a Fortnite dance. To celebrate some of her favourite local businesses, Hannah’s shared with us her favourite places for food and fashion fixes around Perth:
Meet & Bun
Hannah’s no exception to Perth’s love of burgers, with a longstanding personal custom of Burger Tuesdays. “Meet & Bun is my favourite place to go every Tuesday. I always order the Ari Gold Burger (with no pickles). It’s my own tradition!” The burger’s grilled beef patty is loaded with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheddar, mustard and chipotle mayo in a warm potato bun – an absolute classic!
Pretzel
“Pretzel is one of my favourite snacks. I usually order the cinnamon pretzel, however at the moment I have my own Limited Edition Pretzel Flavour! It’s White Chocolate Blueberry Muffin flavoured. Blue is my favourite colour, so the team and I worked on making a delicious blue inspired flavour” Another amazing success from another Perth local, Brittany Garbutt, it’s no wonder Hannah has joined forces with the pink Pretzel purveyor.

Juicy Bao Bao
From the dumpling masters behind Authentic Bites Dumpling House, Juicy Bao Bao and the original store just down the road are a must visit, with great value and high-quality house-made dumplings. “I spend a lot of time in the city and this is my go-to lunch spot in Northbridge. I always order the Pork Xiao Long Bao and the Wonton in Home Made Spice Sauce. The food here is always good!”
Perth Camellia Cafe
A sleeper hit, Camellia Cafe opened at the start of 2021 and has quietly accrued a loyal following with their sweet treats. Specialising in bingsu, they also have some next-level croffles, and perfectly-golden honey bread piled high with whipped cream and your choice of toppings. Hannah’s pick? “The Biscoff Cheesecake here is amazing! It’s so good that it sells out all of the time. This is a great place to stop for desserts”
Oli
Hand-drawn and hand-printed right here in Perth, Oli was founded in 2012 by partners Oliver McDonald and Phoebie Walton. Hit them up for all your every day needs – from the cosiest jumpers to a perfectly Perth-y screen-printed tee. “I love being able to wear local brands and support Perth based businesses. I’m really into Street Style and wearing comfy clothes. Oli is one of my favourite brands”
StreetX
Streetwear enthusiasts will need no introduction to StreetX, who have grown from humble beginnings in 2011 into an international streetwear powerhouse. “I also love StreetX. Their shop also has a really cool layout inside. I wear a lot of StreetX clothes because they’re super comfy but still stylish.”

1Off
If you’re looking for that hard-to-find pair of sneakers or premium streetwear, you’ve got to stop by 1Off. “1Off is great, not only for clothes but also for sneakers. They also have a lot of high-end sneakers that you can’t get in other places in Perth.” If you’re looking to offload some mint condition kicks, they’ll also sell your pre-owned sneakers on consignment.
Forrest Chase
If you’re doing a spot of shopping in the CBD, you may catch a glimpse of Hannah in the zone: “I spend a lot of my free time in the city hanging out with my friends. I also dance in Forrest Chase and sometimes do public performances when I can.”
