Your summer reading just got a little bit spicier!

A new bookstore specialising in romance novels has just opened in Subi – but there’s also a brand new bookshop coming to Leederville.

The Indie Realm opened the doors to their Hay Street store at the end of November. The passion project of sisters Rhyannon and Shannon, the store is dedicated to showcasing independent authors from Australia and New Zealand – with a particular focus on all things dark romance, as well as book-related gifts and accessories.

“I was saddened by the fact that I wouldn’t see my book in a bookstore as I am independently published,” explained Shannon. “That’s when the thought blossomed and has grown until I was in a position to really bring this dream to life!”

“I am so excited to be working with my family to create a place to bring book lovers together, and provide a place to bring all kinds of romance stories together,” added Rhyannon. “Our store and website shelves will be stocked by the indie community’s wonderful authors, vendors and narrators.”

Scheduled to open by Christmas, Boundless Books will be bringing an independent bookstore back to Leederville’s Oxford Street strip, six years after the closure of Oxford Street Books in 2018.

A staff member and then manager at Dymocks in Morley for 14 years, Boundless Books’ owner Allyce Cameron started the process to open her own bookstore back in 2018 before eventually finding the Oxford Street space – coincidentally next door to the former space of Oxford Street Books, now home to Pigeonhole. Cameron hopes to offer an after-dinner book browsing experience to complement Leederville’s thriving hospitality offerings.

The Indie Realm is located at 319 Hay Street, Subiaco.
Boundless Books will be located at 121 Oxford Street, Leederville.
