Young skaters rejoice as new skate park opens in Mount Hawthorn
A brand-new skate park has opened to the public in Mt Hawthorn, and it is already proving popular with local skaters.
You can find the new 350-square metre Mt Hawthorn Skate Space at Britannia Reserve in the City of Vincent, right next to the basketball ring.
The park, which was designed by local company Skate Sculpture, is suitable for young and beginner skaters as the elements are ideal for building skills but still being loads of fun.
Earlier this week, on September 21, families were treated to demonstrations from Skate Sculpture at the new park and from all reports it was well received.
“Our community has been calling for a small skate space dedicated to aspiring skaters for several years,” said City of Vincent Mayor Alison Xamon. “We are very proud to bring this dream to life through this new facility.”
“With a range of street and transition elements, it is the perfect training ground for children to learn how to skate and master their skills.”
The facility features quarter pipes, banks, rails, ledges, tabletop and a mini ramp, perfect for practicing ollies, kickflips and grinds.
All the elements are less than a metre high which ensures a much safer environment for youngsters learning to skate.

There are some design elements that are suited to more experienced and technical skaters, so it is still worth a session for older skaters.
More than half of the funding for this project was provided by the Department of Communities as part of an election commitment from Hon. John Carey MLA, State Member for Perth.
“Our government made an election commitment of $200,000 in funding to kick off, design and fund a new local skate park for younger kids – in response to the huge number of young families calling the City of Vincent home,” he said.
“Designed in consultation with local families and members of the skating community, the Mt Hawthorn Skate Space will be perfect for kids, young people and inexperienced skaters.”
