Design Lives Here: Fremantle Design Week Kicks Off This Weekend
Starting from tomorrow, October 14, Fremantle Design Week is celebrating WA design over seven jam-packed days of special events.
In collaboration with DesignFreo, the festival – WA’s first multi-disciplinary design festival – offers a huge program that allows you to discover the Walyalup’s best creatives, with exhibitions, open studios, workshops, conversations, films, walking tours and more.
Events include HyperSext City, an exhibition that explores the connection between public space and gender, thought-provoking conversations with local architects about what housing design will look like in the future, discussions on the design evolution and changing stigma around tattoos, a showcase of Yindjibarndi artists, plus workshops with some of the city’s best makers (such as ceramics with Winterwares, or woven faces with artist Carla Adams).
Fashion is also a huge part of the festival: check out discussions with some of WA’s most prominent fashion figures, plus pop ups and trunk shows from designers including Shannon Malone at Ooh La La and vintage collector and stylist Leith Groves at Empire Rose.
Walking tours will also take you through some of Fremantle’s most exciting design spaces, retailers (like Kate + Abel, pictured below) and hospitality venues – be lead by Fremantle Tours or grab a map from PS Art Space to guide you through the city’s best spots.
There’s heaps more we haven’t even scratched the surface of, so make sure to check out the full lineup of events on the Fremantle Design Week website.
