It’s no secret that we love a bit of the great outdoors here at Perth is OK!, but what about our love for coffee? We know where to get a coffee in the big smoke, but if we’re camping or heading out onto a beautiful hike…we can’t exactly bring a barista with us!
Luckily, Leaf Bean Machine have got the goods for getting you caffeinated on the go – whether you’re camping off the grid or heading out for a Sunday arvo picnic. We’ve rounded up a few of our favourite gear and gadgets of theirs to take on the road:
The ESPRO Press is no ordinary plunger. A revolutionary development in coffee press technology, it’s got two patent-pending micro-filters – so you don’t have to worry about any grittiness that might have put you off plunger coffee. The 945mL press is double-walled and vacuum insulated; keeping your coffee piping hot on those cold camping mornings. Plus, it does double duty if you also fancy a cup of tea every now and then. But if you’re more of a traditionalist, don’t worry – they’ve also got the classic three-cup French press on offer!

Hario V60 Dripper
The Hario V60 Glass Dripper has become ubiquitous for coffee connoisseurs since its launch in 2005, becoming popular because of the clean, crisp cup it produces. Formed out of thick, borosilicate heat proof glass, the protruding ribs that spiral down the cone promote airflow around the filter, which in turn means a delicious, evenly extracted cup of coffee.

The Aeropress has become extremely popular for outdoors-y types, and we can really understand why. Utilising a chamber of air pressure to brew a rich and full-bodied cup, you’ll find it has less acidic and bitter notes. As well as being super easy to brew (and to clean), it’s also the quickest manual coffee you can make, with a brew time of only a minute and a half!

Perhaps the next step up for V60 or Aeropress lovers, Cold Bruer is a feat of both design and function. Launched in 2013 via Kickstarter, Cold Bruer is just that – a cold brewer. While you’re off exploring, you can set it and forget it; filling one chamber with coffee and the other with cold water, it will slowly drip and extract over three to 12 hours. You could even set it before you go to sleep and wake up to a delicious cup of cold brew coffee – perfect for hot summer days.

Clever Coffee Dripper
The Clever Coffee Dripper AKA CCD is free standing with a valve at the base that draws open when you place the CCD on your cup, allowing more control over brew time and producing a superior cup of coffee. It might not be as flashy as the AeroPress, but it’s one of the most affordable and easy-to-use brewing gadgets on the market.

Rhinowares Hand Grinder
So you’ve picked your weapon of choice, whether it be a press or a dripper – but that’s all for nought if you haven’t got the grind right. The Rhinowares Hand Grinder has conical ceramic burrs that stay sharp for longer, ensuring a clean grind. If you can’t decide what brewing method to go for, the grind is easily adjustable so you can swap between your Aeropress or plunger with ease.
