An application for WA’s first ever cannabis health retreat has been submitted by Denmark’s Raintree Estate.

Raintree is currently a family operated farm, situated on 880 picturesque acres, ten minutes’ from Denmark’s town centre.

The farm operates as a “diverse agri-business”, which includes a herd of over 200 black Angus cattle, two tonne of marron, a truffière that includes over 2500 deciduous oak trees inoculated with French black truffle, plus over eight acres of commercial hemp grown annually as part of their regenerative farming practices.

A distillery, Cannabis Botanical, transforms some of this hemp into spirits and seltzers, while their cosmetics line, Kavvabis, fuses cannabis and truffle to create some herbaceous, earthy fragrances.

Many of these products – as well as their own wine, grown in Mt. Barker and created by artisan winemaker Coby Ladwig – can be enjoyed at the farm’s on-site bar and restaurant, The Dam.

The cannabis retreat plans include a $5 million redevelopment of the site to include a luxury day spa, six chalets and six eco-huts. A doctor will be on-site to assess whether guests are suitable candidates for medical marijuana, meaning that the retreat will be able to operate under existing regulatory pathways.

Strictly regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, medicinal cannabis has been legal in Western Australia since 2016, and is used to treat a variety of symptoms and conditions – including chronic pain, childhood epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and as an appetite stimulant.
