Renowned WA artist Anya Brock – known for her vibrant technicolour works – is opening up her Fremantle studio (and stockroom!) for the first time in over five years later this month.

Located within the PS Art Studios, the open studio is a rare opportunity to see the artist’s entire collection of available works – including never before seen past works, experimental pieces and more.

“It’s a chance to open up the studio for people to come in – even when I show work to clients out there, people never usually come in here,” Anya tells us, sitting amongst dozens of containers of paint, rolls of canvas and brushes.

“So it’s a chance to look at the studio, but also – because I don’t show my work anywhere, it’s all in a stock room next door – it’s a chance to get all of the work out for people to see.

There’s all of this stuff in my studio that’s older works, more experimental works, lots of paper works, lots of unseen work. A lot of the work that I do, there’s a lot of experimental stuff in the background that nobody really sees, but it’s not really the right kind of work to put on the website.”

“You’re going to get something a bit weird and fun, and I love that vibe.”

While many larger-scale works will also be available, the more experimental, smaller scale and paper works present a perfect opportunity to pick up an Anya Brock piece for Christmas gifting.

The last time Anya opened her studio there was a line down the street and most works sold within an hour, so we’d recommend you get down early for this one with a steely resolve and a good idea of the closest ATM.

The sale will take place from 10 ’til 4 on Saturday, November 26 and from 10 ’til 3 on Sunday, and will be located at the PS Upstairs Gallery, 22 Pakenham Street, Fremantle.
