When it comes to studying the importance of real world, practical experience can’t be understated, and Westfield shopping centres around Western Australia have been providing exactly that for fashion students at Bentley South Metropolitan TAFE.

The students are taking a Visual Merchandising Course as part of their Diploma In Applied Fashion Design & Merchandising, and are being asked to apply their learnings and develop and design concepts in Westfield Booragoon, Carousel, Innaloo and Whitford City.

As part of the project students have been required to work to a professional creative brief, budget and timeline, providing them with essential work experience.

This has been combined with Westfield providing guidance on understanding and developing visual merchandising in retail settings, and they’ve already begun installing displays which will be featured until August 15.

“The partnership with Westfield has provided our visual merchandising students with the chance to connect with a team of professionals in a dynamic live space, where they have developed their end-to-end project from brief and conceptualisation to display,” said says Julia Burns, Creative Industries Executive Director at South Metropolitan TAFE.

“It has been an invaluable training experience for them to have been given access to a high-end shopping environment to showcase their creativity and hands-on skills, as well as forge some important industry connections that will serve them well in their future careers.”

Check out a few examples below and keep your eyes peeled for them next time you’re at one of those four Westfield shopping centres!
