Busselton Jetty’s Epic New Underwater Discovery Centre Needs A Nickname, And You Can Help!
As far as exciting new tourism developments in Western Australia go, we have to say we’re incredibly excited to see Busselton Jetty’s new end of jetty development come to fruition over the next 18 months. The Australian Underwater Discovery Centre (AUDC) and its accompanying food and beverage Village will be the largest of its kind in the world, and feature Underwater Dining.
Construction is planned to begin this coming October, with an eye towards a December 2022 opening date. It’s hoped the new AUDC will add an extra 200,00 visitors to Busselton in 2023, bringing jetty visitor numbers up to 900,000 per year.
Often considered a little stop-off location on peoples trips further south, this will cement Busselton as a must-visit location, and provide a jobs boom for the region.
In a press release today Busselton Jetty Chair Barry House said, “Construction alone will create nearly 200 jobs and once operational thousands of jobs will be created over coming years as cafes, hotels, service stations, retail stores, bus companies, trade agents all prosper, returning some $200m in economic benefit to WA.”

As you can probably guess, Busselton Jetty Inc are incredibly excited about the development, and want to get the community involved in helping them provide a nickname for the centre: “Busselton Jetty Inc is finalising the design of the Australian Underwater Discovery Centre (AUDC) which is being built in the shape of an abstract whale, but we think he or she needs a name. No Whaley McWhaleface!!”
They’re also offering a pretty great prize for the eventual winning entrant*, including:
– 12 assorted bottles of beautiful Cullen’s Wine;
– $250 Retail Voucher to spend in our Interpretive Centre;
– Winter Whales, Sharks and Storm Tour package valued at $140 for 2 adults and 2 children.
So get brainstorming and follow THIS LINK to submit your entry!
