Watch out, Hollywood: Gosnells is on the rise.

The Perth suburb will be the location for a new Australian film starring Greta Scacchi (Looking for Alibrandi, White Mischief, Presumed Innocent) and her own daughter Leila George (Animal Kingdom, The Kid, Mortal Engines).

George is also the daughter of actor Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, Men In Black, Daredevil).

He Ain’t Heavy is the feature film debut of Perth’s own award-winning writer and director David Vincent Smith following on from 2019 proof of concept short I’m Not Hurting You.

The film, produced with Jess Parker of Perth-based No Labels Films, follows the story of a desperate woman who kidnaps and enforces rehab on her younger brother, played by Sam Corlett (Vikings: Valhalla, The Dry, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).

He Ain’t Heavy provides a canvas to interrogate a real-world dilemma many families wrestle with,” Smith said.

“The price we are prepared to pay for love; a question without a simple answer.”

The film will start shooting in Gosnells on Monday, January 23, and is produced with support from Screenwest and Lotterywest as part of the West Coast Visions Initiative.
