Joondalup Festival announces immersive new free event, Electric Kingdom
Following on from the announcement of headline show ARETHA late last year, Joondalup Festival has announced an exciting new addition for the 2024 lineup – Electric Kingdom.
This free outdoor experience invites attendees to be immersed in a glowing kingdom of animals erected at Hillarys Boat Harbour.

The installation will include an Australian-first unveiling of the “Snake-Necked Turtle”.
Created in collaboration local Nimunburr Yawuru Ballardong Noongar artist Kambarni and Boox Kid, the turtle, known as Yaakan, Booyi or Choonya in Noongar, is a ‘near-threated’ little turtle endemic to Joondalup.
Other creatures to feature at Electric Kingdom include the menacing Tiger, the mighty Falcon, roly-poly Pandas, towering Giraffes and Tarutharu the Kaurna Skink.
Some other performances to look out for at Joondalup Festival include:
- Pram People: Presented by Polyglot Theatre, this performance invites community participation through movement and connection, using the most universal of vehicles – the pram. Its made specially for for children who ride in prams and the adults that push them.
- Living Sculptures: How the Birds Got Their Colours – a captivating performance of First Nations dance by Arc Circus Co. and the Yugambeh Aboriginal Dancers
- Cabaret: An immersive performance against the backdrop of the iconic film on the big screen.
- The Lifetime of Deaf and Deafblind: Experience the troubles and triumphs of living in a silent world with Peter Blockey and Eddie Szczepanik as they share stories from their lives in Auslan, with narration by hearing actors.
