Talking about turning a negative into a positive – while we may have shifted back towards the use of takeaway coffee cups during the pandemic, local roasters Karvan Coffee (AKA Leaf Bean Machine) have found a way to extract some awesome from the situation.

Alongside running a sustainable, low-waste operation, the roaster has initiatives in place that support the homeless community, as well as programs to help underprivileged high schoolers learn coffee skills – and now they’re turning their attention to the arts.

The Art Cup Project sees them team up with 16 talented local artists, who have each chosen an artwork to showcase on Karvan’s take away coffee cups, which will be distributed to cafés throughout Perth.

Works run the gamut from photorealistic portraits in oil to abstract acrylics and just about everything in between. Each cup will have details of the work and artist, as well as a link to find out more about them – with the team at Karvan also in the process of interviewing each artist (you’ll be able to check those out on their blog).

If you’re a budding artist yourself, you can also submit yourself to be featured – the only requirement is that you’re based in WA.

To find out more about the project and the artists featured (or to submit your own work), head to their website HERE.
