After only recently scoring a nod in Forbes Magazine’s Best 23 Places To Visit in 2023 list, the accolades keep coming for our corner of the world, with influential travel guide Lonely Planet naming WA one of the top 30 destinations to visit next year.

Filed under the “Journey” section of the list, Lonely Planet says: “Whether you have just a few days or weeks, the mind-blowingly large region of Western Australia offers so many opportunities to take an epic journey…

“So hop between cities by air, or spend days (or weeks) driving by car, there’s a lot to check out on the western side of down under.”

Other regions to make the list include Lima in Peru, Nova Scotia in Canada; Jamaica, Jordan, New Mexico and Southern Scotland.

“WA covers more land than England, Spain, France, Italy, and Germany combined, yet is home to less than 1% of their collective population,” adds the travel bible. “Space, serenity and scenery: this is the holy trinity of WA.”

WA Premier Mark McGowan was unsurprisingly chuffed, saying “We all know that WA is an extraordinary place. Now the rest of the world is learning about our secret. Travellers are looking for authentic adventures they can’t get anywhere else in the world. Western Australia is full of them.”
