Fresh off the high of all the glitz and glamour of awards season (and obsessively, tearfully rewatching Ke Huy Quan’s emotional acceptance speeches), we’re hungry for some cinema! Movies that explore the human condition, with spectacular cinematography and powerful performances that make our heart skip a beat…

Trash Classics Luna Leederville Mac and Me

That, or a freaky little alien puppet!

Luckily for us, Trash Classics is making its triumphant return, bringing the spirit of the VHS back to Luna Leederville for another season. One person’s trash is another person’s treasure, after all!

Hosted and curated by Tristan Fidler, from RTRFM’s Movie Squad and Luna’s The Room screenings, the season is kicking off on Friday, March 31 with the cult favourite and E.T. ripoff Mac and Me – considered one of the worst movies of all time!

You may also recognise the film as part of a long-running late night gag by actor Paul Rudd, who has been tormenting Conan O’Brien with a clip from the movie for nearly 20 years.

The following month will see Hackers finally hit the big screen on April 28, so you can truly appreciate the ’90s cyber punk fashion of the young Jonny Lee Miller, Angelina Jolie, Matthew Lillard and Jesse Bradford, soundtracked by the pulsating sounds of the Prodigy. (And what other movie features a Quicksilver rashie quite so prominently?)

Get ready to scream with over-the-top sequel to the game-changing horror classic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, screening on May 26. Co-presented by local film buffs Black Maria Film Collective, it’s a “bloody, wild and wacky time at the flicks”!

Screening on June 30, we’re particularly excited to see the unfairly maligned Josie And The Pussycats finally have its moment in the sun as we appreciate the film’s satirical look at teen-oriented corporate culture. An under appreciated classic!

Finally, on July 28, get ready to feel the rumble of a monster deep underground with 1990’s cult classic and notorious Kevin Bacon flop Tremors.

Each screening is sure to be a masterclass of cheesiness, and a communal experience of everything that makes these cult faves so darn watchable!
