Speak to MPs in Perth today, Mr McGowan said he’ll be stepping down after six years as WA premier, along stepping down as the Member for Rockingham.
Mr McGowan has cited exhaustion as the main reason for calling it day, saying this will be his last week in office.
“I have loved the role, I have loved being able to deliver on our agenda for the benefit of our state. I have loved the challenge of solving problems, making decisions, getting outcomes, and helping people. But the truth is I’m tired, extremely tired,” he said.
“In fact, I’m exhausted… The role of political leadership does not stop, it is relentless. With huge responsibility but it is all consuming, each and every day. And combined with the COVID-19 years, it has taken it out of me.”
More to come…
