Cottesloe’s Gullotti Galleries is presenting an exhibition of the works of globally renowned street art/pop art provocateurs Mr. Brainwash next month.
A larger-than-life figure in the street are scene, the exhibition will showcase the boundary-pushing work that sees him count the likes of Madonna and the late, great Stan Lee as fans.
The exhibition will also feature a specially-created piece for Perth, aptly called, “Perth Is Beautiful”.
The 55cm x 76cm silkscreen on paper piece depicts two youngsters on a spray-painted park bench looking across the Swan River to the iconic Perth skyline, and there’ll be only 80 limited edition, signed prints available for purchase.
“I started doing some research about Perth and found out about the Swan River. I thought the name had something poetic about it and the black swan is something very special,” Mr Brainwash, who’s real name is Thierry Guetta, said.
“The boy and girl refer to the art of Norman Rockwell, which I’ve always loved… It’s about seeing with our heart and the innocence we had in childhood. Life is beautiful, the world is beautiful, Perth is beautiful.”
The exhibition will also feature an iconic Mr. Brainwash 1.82m-tall spray can and a 3m-tall sculpture of a horse, and is a huge get for the Western Australian art scene.
“It’s super-exciting to be hosting this blockbuster exhibition here in Perth, and bringing Mr. Brainwash’s work to an Australian audience,” said Gullotti Gallery owner Paul Gullotti.
“Mr. Brainwash’s art ignites optimism and excitement, but most of all it makes people smile.”
Mr Brainwash will join VIP guests via video link for the launch of Perth Is Beautiful on August 7, before the exhibition runs from August 8 until September 19.
