In our 2023 bingo card, we had not even remotely considered the possibility of the Roebuck Bay Hotel – you know, the one in Broome famous for its weekly wet t-shirt competitions – would get in hot water over immodest clothing.

The WA Police are currently reviewing two breaches of the Liquor Licensing Act issued against the hotel, relating to a Mardi Gras event held at the Broome Turf Club with the hotel as licensee on March 4.

The party, which was organised by Broome Pride and attracted over 2500 revellers, was initially shut down just before midnight due to concerns over intoxication levels, however the two breaches relate only to immodest clothing and security guards not wearing appropriate fluoro vests.

The hotel has a special dispensation within its license for partial nudity, allowing for their wet t-shirt competitions – however this was not applicable for the March 4 event.

Following meetings between the Kimberley Police District and Broome Pride chair and organiser Lucy Falcocchio, police are now reviewing the immodest clothing breach.
