The City of Kalamunda has become the latest local government to embrace the three-bin FOGO sytem.

The WA Government announced the news today that the City of Kalamunda has joined the Better Bins Plus: Go FOGO program, bringing the WA total to 270,000 households now with three bins.

The Food Organics, Garden Organics system commences this month.

“We know households throughout WA support the three-bin FOGO system, and it’s great to see City of Kalamunda provide this service to tens of thousands of additional households,” said Environment Minister Reece Whitby.

The Better Bins Plus: Go FOGO Program is a $20 million State Government initiative to get organic waste out of landfill.

According to the government, FOGO services currently have a recovery rate of 56%, compared to just 14% for those with the two-bin system.

Kalamunda becomes the 15th local government in the metropolitan Perth region and 23rd in the state to offer the system.

“Many residents have already embraced FOGO principles through reuse or diversion of food organics through composting,” said City of Kalamunda Mayor Margaret Thomas.

“I anticipate the positive impacts FOGO will have in the community and on recovery rates. FOGO will revolutionise our recycling habits and bolster our recycling rates.”
