It was a sad, sad day in 2018 that saw the closure of Leederville icon Oxford Street Books.

The literary institution had been running for decades, and was a go-to for Perth bookworms. Open until 10:30 each night, a catch up in Leederville wasn’t complete without a post-dinner perusal of the shelves.

Prohibitive rent costs and falling foot traffic meant that they had to close their doors, but a team of former staff are banding together to re-open Oxford Street Books – with your help.

Utilising a membership-based system, Oxford Street Books 2.0 will be a community hub – focusing on local authors, designers and publishers such as UWA Publishing and Fremantle Press, as well as book clubs, talks, events and more.

To achieve this, the store aims to recruit 6007 members – the same number as the Leederville postcode. For $5 a month, you’ll get an in-store discount and priority access to events.
