Recently we introduced you to Western Australia’s new Paid Escape initiative, encouraging young people to make their way to our state’s beautiful Northwest and Coral Coast to work and play during the peak season.

And with Northwest and Coral Coast tourism regions like Broome, Kununurra and Exmouth home to a variety of excellent local businesses with job vacancies, it’s a pretty great opportunity for young people to head up there to work. It’s not all work though, in their downtime they’ll have the opportunity to experience these fantastic regions themselves (and get away from the miserable Perth winter).

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, here’s a few things to consider:

Who should apply?

Ideal candidates are 18-30 year olds who are ready to work and ready for an adventure away from home in WA’s North. Perhaps you’ve just finished school and are looking for a break before starting university, or looking for more experience in the tourism or hospitality sector. Ideally you’d need to be willing to pack up your things for a short while to follow the sun north. Perhaps you’ve got a friend in a similar situation with a shared sense of adventure you could travel with.

This is also an incredible opportunity to explore some areas of WA you may not normally get the chance to, so a keen interest in experiencing our state’s Northwest and Coral Coast is a must!

What kind of jobs are going?

There’s plenty of jobs available, especially within hospitality and tourism sectors, like:

Bar staff
Wait staff
Bar managers
Chef/cook
Hotel reception
Housekeeping
Kitchen hands
Tour guides

The Paid Escape WEBSITE has an interactive map which links directly to jobs in particular regions, like living and working in the El Questro Wilderness Park, being a fishing guide on a Kimberley coastal camp or running tours at Cable Beach Club Resort.

Pay rates and conditions

These will of course vary between roles, but it’s important to check with your potential employers before accepting any jobs, and if you’re not sure about fair or correct rates of pay you should check with the Fair Work Ombudsman first.
