What is the Alinta Energy Christmas Pageant?

The annual pageant first began in 1972, making 2023’s pageant the 52nd. Last year, the 2022 pageant saw 80 floats travel along St Georges Terrace, comprised of community groups, businesses, schools and not-for-profit organisations – not to mention Fat Cat and his iconic big red car, and of course the big man himself, Santa!

When is the Alinta Energy Christmas Pageant?

The pageant will be held on December 2, 2023, and will kick off at 7:30PM. The last float is scheduled to reach the finish area at Langley Park at approximately 9:30PM.

Where is the Alinta Energy Christmas Pageant?

The pageant route is approximately one kilometre, starting at the corner of William Street and St Georges Terrace, and finishing at Langley Park at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Terrace Road.

Viewing areas begin anywhere east of the starting point, with no viewing areas to the west of William Street. While the start of the pageant route is one of the most popular locations, organisers encourage crowds to position themselves eastward along the route to get a better viewing location.

SES volunteers, security and event staff will be on hand to help coordinate crowds, with children recommended to sit at the front of the viewing areas with adults standing behind.

An accessible viewing area will be located on the north side of St Georges Terrace between Victoria Avenue and Irwin Street, close to accessible toilets on Irwin Street. Access to the area will be controlled by security to allow wheelchair users entry, along with one companion.

How to get to the Alinta Energy Christmas Pageant?

The pageant draws large crowds every year, so it’s important to plan ahead how you’re going to get to and from the CBD – arriving early to secure your ideal viewing spot is highly recommended!

Transperth services will be running, however some routes may be impacted by the pageant route and road closures.

In accordance with the large crowds expected, delays are expected when leaving the event – whether via public transport or exiting car parks.
