The Perth Scorchers have capped off a dominant WBBL 2021 season by winning the first ever WBBL Title over the weekend, beating the Adelaide Strikers by 12 runs at Optus Stadium.

It’s their first win after two other attempts in WBBL finals, on both occasions losing to the Sydney Sixers in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.

That Sixers team featured South African allrounder Marizanne Kapp on both occasions, and this year Kapp helped the Scorchers to their first title, recovering from illness during the week to star with bat and ball.

First Kapp helped lift the Scorchers to a defendable total of 146-5 after scoring 31 runs off 23 balls, before finishing with 1-25 from her four overs balling, including only giving away two runs in her first two overs.

The game was played in front of 15,511 fans at Optus Stadium – the highest ever attendance for a standalone WBBL match.

Despite a strong middle order partnership between Adelaide captain Tahlia McGrath (36 off 29 balls) and Laura Wolvaardt (25 off 28 balls), the Strikers were never quite up to the task.
