Beginning on Saturday, visitors to the City of Perth will be able to hire e-scooters from over 80 spots across the CBD and surrounds.

The trial is in partnership with two e-scooter providers, Bird and Neuron Mobility, with riders able to pick up and drop off scooters from the designated parking points stretching between UWA’s campus, Northbridge, East Perth and the CBD.

Both providers utilise geofencing technology, which will stop scooters from operating within “No Ride Zones”, which include the Hay and Murray Street malls, Forrest Place and off-path within parks. The technology also means riders will need to drop off scooters at designated points, as well as limit the speeds scooters can reach on footpaths. E-scooters will also not be permitted on roads with a speed limit of over 50km/hr.

The City of Perth e-scooter introduction follows a similar trial by Neuron in the City of Stirling, as well as the introduction of Beam Scooters in Rockingham, Albany, Denmark, Esperance and Bunbury.
