After first being announced in August 2020, the much-anticipated Ocean Reef Marina development is one step closer following news yesterday of increased government spending on the waterfront precinct.

At the time, that initial announcement came with a $126.5 million price tag, before WA Premier Mark McGowan announced an additional $96.5 million yesterday, bringing the total $223 million in total.

Along with extending the pool deck and the addition of an architecturally-designed hospitality building, the increased funding will also go towards a play space, public art interpretation and inclusive facilities.

It’s hoped the new development will become a major tourist attraction once complete, with the overall new town centre precinct to feature local and destination retail, food and beverage, residential, short term holiday accommodation, and commercial offerings.

“The Ocean Reef Marina is one of the most important development projects in our State, creating more than 8,600 construction jobs, and will ultimately inject $3 billion into the Western Australian economy,” said Mr McGowan.

The announcement included the release of a unique precinct scale waterfront development opportunity through an Expressions of Interest (EOI) process – which you can take a look at via DevelopmentWA.
