With the current rental and cost of living crisis in full swing (and getting fuller by the day), many cat owners are finding themselves in positions where they’re unable to feed or sterilise pets, and often even have a place for them to live.
As a result Cat Haven is reaching a crisis point and as WA’s only open admission cat shelter, they’re seeing up to 70 cats and kittens coming in on some days, with over 7,000 taken in last year.
“We can’t see and end in sight right now, said Cat Haven spokesperson Amber Ashford. “We are in our second wave of kitten season, and with the high numbers of surrenders our adult cats are being overlooked…

“It is so sad to see these older cats sit here every day – they just need loving homes and if that means waiving their adoption fees we will do that.”
And so with vital renovations about to begin at the premises, they’re on a mission to clear out the shelter and will be waiving adoption fees on all cats over one year old (excluding special breeds).
“If you have been thinking of adopting a furry friend, or know a friend or family member looking, now is the best time. We have so many friendly, loving cats on site just waiting to meet you. Please come down!”
Adoptions will be open from 10am-5pm on Friday and 10am-4pm Saturday and Sunday, Cat Haven asks you bring ID with address on it and a carrier, with all normal adoption procedures still applying.
