One of the unfortunate by-products in the early days of the coronavirus lockdown was the early finishing of Scarborough’s beloved Thursday night Sunset Markets.

It’s a wrong that looks to be righted when they return for a special Winter Edition, running Saturday afternoons 3-8pm, from this weekend until October 31.

We know what you’re thinking – winter is no time for the beach, right?

Well we (and the organisers) say balderdash to that, with the Scarborough promenade being transformed into a warm, wintery foodie delight, with fire-pits, crispy clean ocean air and beachside beats to keep you moving.

To keep up with social distancing, the global lineup of food trucks and retailers will wrap all the way up to the Clocktower.

And what a lineup it is – there’ll be over 40 foodies and retailers hawking BBQ meats, toasty curries, dumplings, handmade gnocchi, heartwarming soups and more to fire up your taste buds.

Meanwhile craft goods, vintage clothing, street wear, art, jewellery and more will scratch that locally-produced retail itch.

In addition to the market stalls, the Scarborough Esplanade is of course littered with a heap of great food and drink establishments to help you keep the night going.

And in a cute little tradition, the local Scarborough Beach Scout Group will be igniting and stoking the fire-pits each week, before keeping the ashes from one fire to help them get-going the following week.

If you’ve been feeling a little couped up this Winter, the next few Saturdays look like a good opportunity to chuck on a beanie, grab the friends/fam and toast a few marshmallows by the beach!
