We’ve long said that Perth’s music scene holds its own against the world stage – and this brand new podcast series shines a light on our local grass-roots, independent record labels that help make the sonic magic happen.

Produced by local community radio station RTRFM – Perth music’s loudest champion – and hosted by musician and label head Mark Neal (pictured below), First Pressing will uncover and celebrate the people behind Perth’s booming local music scene.

“WA’s music scene has depth and richness that goes well beyond the commercially successful artists from the state – it’s driven by a unique spirit of collaboration, camaraderie and openness between the folks that contribute to it,” RTRFM Music Director Matt Perrett said.

“For a long time, local and independent record labels served as hubs for this community-centric ethos and despite a changing media landscape and the dominance of monolithic major labels, they still are.”

“Sharing the unique stories of the WA-based labels that uplift and amplify the voices of local artists is essential and exciting and reveals the amount of selfless work so many members of the WA music community undertake to help others.”
