The WA Government has set the official opening date for the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook train line – Sunday 8 December.

The line will be formally known as the Ellenbrook Line and its opening will be celebrated with a community event before regular services begin on December 9.

The 21 kilometre line starts at Bayswater Station, and will feature five new stations along the way – Morley, Noranda, Ballajura, Whiteman Park and Ellenbrook.

“I am thrilled for the communities in our north-east who have waited so long for this train line,” said Transport Minister Rita Saffioti. “This train line will be a game changer for these communities, offering affordable and reliable transport options to get around our city.”

Journey times will be approximately 31 minutes from Ellenbrook to Perth, 27 from Whiteman Park, 22 from Ballajura, 19 from Noranda and 17 from Morley.

The two-zone fare cap means the ride will cost commuters $4.16 (with a SmartRider), with rides free on Sundays and school students riding free during the week.

The line comes in at a cost of $1.65 billion (jointly funded by Commonwealth and State Governments), and according to the Government has created 6,500 jobs during construction.

“This METRONET project will transform the north-eastern suburbs, providing affordable or free public transport on a world-class rail network for tens of thousands of local families,” said Premier Roger Cook.

The community event on December 8 will include family-friendly entertainment at each of the new stations, with further details to be announced.
