‘Future of golf’ secured at Perth golf resort as upgraded course set to open
A popular golf resort 40 minutes from the Perth CBD is set to reopen a new and improved 18-hole course this month.
The Vines Resort will now offer a 27-hole golf course and a short course, alongside a new driving range.
The Championship Course has been upgraded to “secure the future of golf” at the resort in the Swan Valley.
That is what Vines WA Director Mark Hohnen said as he made the announcement this week: “We are securing the future of golf at The Vines for decades to come,” he said.
“These changes confirm The Vines as a complete golfing experience by offering 27 traditional holes, a short course, and a modern driving range, in addition to the mini golf already offered.”
The renovated Championship Course, which previously hosted the Heineken and Johnnie Walker Classics, will be combined with half of the other existing 18-hole course, while the remainder of the second course will become a new 14-hole course.
Mr Hohnen added that the new offering coincides with golfing trends across Australia and the glove, as demand has shifted to shorter games from time-poor golfers.
And that the course will help to make the resort a destination for families to go on holiday.
“Golf facilities are reinventing themselves to remain viable,” he said. “The reality is that for golf courses to remain viable they have to have a whole of community context and be a broader recreational destination where families want to go.”

For the current 5.4 hectare driving range, Vines WA plans to redevelop the area into 100 single-storey houses and 40 premium townhouses.
The cost has not been revealed for this project which has been revised following fierce rejection to the initial plan to construct 325 houses on the golf course.
