George Kambosos Jr versus Vasiliy Lomachenko fight preview
This Sunday, Lightweight boxer George ‘Ferocious’ Kambosos will be fighting for a world title on home soil, when he faces Vasiliy Lomachenko for the vacant IBF lightweight world championship at RAC arena in Perth.
Kambosos (21-2, 10 KOs) is a former WBA (super), IBF, WBO and Ring lightweight world champion, as is the current IBO lightweight world champion.
Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) has held world titles in three weight classes, including holding the WBA (super), WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles, however he lost the titles in an attempt to capture the IBF lightweight world title from Teofimo Lopez.
Lopez would go on to drop all the titles to Kambosos, who then lost the titles to Devin Haney in Melbourne and failed to regain the titles in the rematch, also in Melbourne.
Lomachenko would go on to challenge Haney for all the titles, however lost via unanimous decision.
Haney then vacated the titles in order to move up in weight class and become the WBC super lightweight champion.
This fight will be the main event of a triple header which will have fellow Australians Andrew Moloney and Cherneka Johnson challenge for the interim Jr. Bantamweight title and WBA women’s Bantamweight title respectively.
