This September will see a first for Australian basketball when HoopsFest arrives to take over Perth from September 19-22.

The multi-day extravaganza will bring all NBL and WNBL teams together for Round One of the Hungry Jack’s NBL Season; a Cygnett WNBL Tournament; the Foot Locker U18 Australian Club Championships; an interactive fan zone; Sneakerland exhibition; and loads more, including today’s announcement.

The festival has just announced Australian producer Hayden James will be heading our way for an exclusive set, playing on the also just-announced, multi-level courtside ‘Boomboox’.

James will be playing courtside for the NBL Championship Series rematch between Melbourne United and Tasmania JackJumpers on Thursday 19 September to kick the party off, and then finish with a bang during the final on-court matchup on September 22.

The unique experience will take over the north end of RAC Arena, where fans can enjoy an “elevated food, wine, sporting and music experience”.

“It’s an awesome design,” said James on the announcement. “It’s going to be a cool experience watching from the lower bowl or upper deck during the game and then after we’re going to put on an awesome show for the fans.”

WA Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism Rita Saffioti is also pretty excited, saying: “Having Hayden James performing courtside, plus a custom-built Boombox is another unique and exciting element for this event, and will only add to the incredible atmosphere we’re expecting at RAC Arena…

“HoopsFest is shaping up to be a massive weekend of basketball, and is another great opportunity for us to showcase Western Australia to all the people that travel here for this exciting event.”

The first also coincides with the release of Hayden James’ third album, We Could Be Love, just a few days prior.

“The additions of the RAC Arena Boombox and Hayden James will help elevate the HoopsFest experience to another level,” said NBL Chief Fans, Club + Strategy Officer, Anthony Everard.

“HoopsFest will unite all elements of basketball, with entertainment and music being crucial to that. We want to ensure fans attending HoopsFest have an experience like no other and one that is different to their regular NBL game day.”
