Perth’s Jack Della Maddalena wins at UFC 299, rises to top 5 in the world rankings
Welcome to the top five in the world, Jack Della Maddalena.
Perth’s UFC welterweight has picked up a third round TKO victory over former title challenger, Brazil’s Gilbert Burns at UFC 299 in Miami.
The story of the bout was Della Maddalena’s elite boxing against Burns’ world class grappling and BJJ skills, as Della Maddalena appeared to rock Burns on the feet, and Burns was able to take Della Maddalena down throughout the fight.
In the third round, after escaping Burns’ grappling, Della Maddalena timed a knee as Burns shot for a takedown, dropping the Brazilian before following up with elbows, earning the TKO victory and UFC’s ‘Performance of the Night’ in the process.
“My plan was to come here, grab the cash, and dash,” Della Maddalena said in the cage after the fight.
English fighter Leon Edwards currently holds the UFC welterweight title, and a bout with number one contender Belal Muhammad seems like an inevitability, however, Della Maddalena called for a fight that will put him next in line for UFC gold.
“There’s a lot of scary people in this division, and I’m the fucking scariest,” Della Maddalena declared in the cage.

“Shavkat Rakhmonov, I think me and you could make a hell of a title eliminator.”
Rakhmonov is currently ranked three in the UFC welterweight division and holds a perfect record of 18-0.
Della Maddalena is undefeated in the UFC and holds a professional record of 17-2.
The UFC is rumoured to return to Perth in August, a card that no doubt the Perth native would be looking to get on.
