The Octagon is officially returning to Perth in August, the UFC confirmed Thursday in a press conference with Alex Volkanvoski, Jack Della Maddalena, Steve Erceg and Perth government officials.

UFC 305 will be held in Perth’s RAC arena on Sunday August 18th, and seems to be the only UFC event slated for Australia this year, deputy premier Rita Saffioti revealed.

The card for the vent is still a mystery, however multiple Australian UFC fighters, including Robert Whittaker, have said they would be interested in fighting on the card.

The day before UFC 305, August 17th, will have the Wallabies take on the Springboks in a rugby test match in Optus stadium. This timing line up lends itself well to South African UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis possibly making the trip to Australia for a potential fight with his rival, former champion Israel Adesanya.

Former featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski, who is a training partner of Adesanya, hinted at this at the announcement press conference, saying, “I know a middleweight fella who’s looking to get his belt back.”

Bringing UFC 305 to Perth is part of a two-event, multi-year deal signed between the UFC and Tourism WA. The Other event will be a UFC Fight Night event, although details of that event are still unknown.
