After losing two opponents in the space of eight days, Perth’s biggest mixed martial arts export, Jack Della Maddalena, has finally found an opponent to fight at the UFC in Vegas this week.

His scheduled fight with Sean Brady at last weekend’s UFC 290 was cancelled two weeks out after Brady suffered a nasty elbow injury, with UFC newcomier Josiah Harrell stepping in to replace Brady.

Unfortunately Harrell was also forced to withdraw after a pre-fight MRI revealed a rare neurological condition called moyamoya, which puts him at serious risk of stroke if left un-treated.

Rather than heading home, Maddalena decided to stay in Vegas in the hope of finding a new opponent and was vindicated when newcomer Bassil Hafez tapped in for a welterweight bout against Maddalena this Saturday at UFC Vegas 77.

The 26-year-old Maddalena has been a sensation since entering the UFC, currently sitting at 4 wins and 0 losses (14-2 overall) – his most recent victory a first-round submission over Randy Brown in Perth at UFC 284 earlier this year.

Meanwhile, 31-year-old Hafez sits at 8-3-1 and is the Fury FC welterweight champ after winning the belt in February, making Sunday’s bout a must-watch.
