2023 is the year of the 16th Special Olympics World Games, taking place in Germany from June 17-25 and featuring over 7000 athletes with intellectual disabilities competing together across 26 summer sports.

It’s almost twice the size of the Paralympics, and this year Australia has 68 athletes heading over to compete, along with dozens of officials and volunteers taking part in the world’s largest inclusive sporting event.

Of those 68 athletes, four will be from Western Australia and this Saturday 27 May a special celebration and uniform presentation is happening in South Perth for all of the athletes, officials and volunteers heading over.

Taking place at Rambla on Swan from 4-6pm, there’ll be light snacks and refreshments provided as the public is invited to be apart of the atmosphere leading in to what is one a colourful celebration promoting more recognition and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

It’s free to attend but important to register, which you can do here.
