West Coast Eagles unveil epic new first nations guernsey for Sir Doug Nicholls rounds
Each year the AFL clubs unleash new guernsey designs for Indigenous round, and yesterday the West Coast Eagles launched their latest stunner, designed by Yamatji artist Loretta Egan.
It will be worn during Sir Doug Nicholls Round matches against Melbourne at Optus Stadium (round 10) and Adelaide in Adelaide in round 11.
During Sir Doug Nicholls Round match day broadcasts the team will also be referred to as Waalitj Marawar, which translates to ‘Eagles of the West’ in Noongar language.
Egan is a lifelong Eagles fan and niece of TV personality Ernie Dingo, and you can learn a little more about the design via the video below:

The ‘Ngularl’ (Wedge-Tailed Eagle) has been influenced by Eagles club champion Chris Lewis, while the circles represent other AFL clubs, and “the Eagle tracks up the top signify the Eagles players leaving their mark wherever they play,” says Egan.
West Coast says Waalitj Marawar will be used during First Nations celebrations, “with the club exploring more a more permanent First Nations visual identity in the months to come…
“The club is committed to reconciliation and empowering First Nations Peoples across our game and our community.”
