A free three-day festival outside Perth Stadium to be held alongside opening cricket test
With the seemingly never-ending AFL season and ensuing trade period finally in the rearview mirror, it’s time to start getting pumped for the Aussie test cricket summer, which starts in Perth when Australia take on India in the first of five matches for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
And today the WA Government has announced a free three-day festival to coincide with ‘The West Test’, to be held outside Perth Stadium over the test’s first three days (November 22-24).
The West Test Summer Fest will be a celebration of cricket, community, and Australian and Indian cultures with live music and entertainment, local Indian community street vendors and food experiences, cricket skills tests, art installations and more.
“Hosting The West Test between Australia and India presents an enormous opportunity for tourism in WA,” said Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti.
“We have a very strong and proud local Indian community and of course we’re also expecting a large contingent of Indian cricket fans, who we know are incredibly passionate, to travel to WA for The West Test.”
Fans attending the test match will also be able to show their West Test ticket at the WACA on Saturday 23 November for free entry to the Perth Scorchers vs Hobart Hurricanes Women’s Big Bash League game.
“…The West Test is fast becoming a huge part of summer here in WA, made even more exciting this year by coinciding with the 10-year anniversary of the Women’s Big Bash League,” said Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman.
“I’m particularly excited to see the return of The West Test Hill this year, which creates a fantastic event experience for 500 fans to watch the match unfold from its three-tiered vantage point, and is a nod to Test cricket’s rich history at the WACA Ground.”
