Australian Hotels Association (WA) released new data this morning revealing Perth hotels recorded the highest occupancy rates in Australia across 2024.

AHA (WA) CEO Bradley Woods was buoyed by the news, citing several key factors in the upswing, including a packed major events schedule, and new aviation routes.

“A diversified schedule of events and aviation routes has proven instrumental in promoting WA to diverse audiences, attracting visitors from across the country and the globe,” said Mr Woods.

“This is reflected in the higher occupancy of our hotels and which results in increased spending in pubs, bars and restaurants.”

From January to December 2024, metropolitan Perth hotels achieved an average occupancy level of 79.4%, marking a 3.9% rise compared to the same period in the previous year.

The average daily room rate also rise a few percent to $227.31, a sign of the increased demand, while regional areas also saw significant growth.

The Kimberley and Pilbara region saw an overall increase of 13.5% in occupancy, while coastal hotspots Bunbury and Mandurah recorded a 10% rise.

“The surge in visitation brings substantial benefits to the local economy, supporting jobs in hospitality and boosting revenue for licensed venues and local tourism operators,” said Mr Woods.

“Western Australia’s vibrant tourism and hospitality sectors continue to contribute to a thriving community and a resilient economy.”

Last year saw a swathe of major events make their way to Perth, encouraging visitors from the east coast and internationally, including the WWE, UFC, international football, the West Test and more.
