Head South For The Summer And Stay At This Epic Holiday Home Right On Blackwood River
Sometimes you don’t want a super-luxe high end Airbnb experience, rather a quaint, quirky stay somewhere remote that’ll help you detox digitally and get back to nature, while still having all the creature comforts to keep things cool.
And The Shipwright’s Mistress down in August ticks all of these boxes and so many more!
Nestled along the banks of the beautiful Blackwood River amongst some perfectly-drifting-in-the-breeze peppermint gums, it might be your new fave holiday haven.
Created by a fourth-gen Fremantle wooden boat builder and his wife, it’s designed with two key ingredients in mind – rejuvenation and connection.
“This home goes beyond being a relaxing place to spend time,” says co-owner Pepper Hutchinson of the fully-renovated 1960s home. “It’s where we come as a family to ground ourselves and regroup when life’s inevitable stresses start feeling a little heavy to carry.”

Filled with curious vintage finds and hand-crafted nautical knick knacks, if you’re chasing relaxed Australian vibes by the water this is it, with highlights including the scenic riverfront location, a substantial covered deck, cosy potbelly stove, SMEG cooker, well-equipped kitchen and close proximity to down south foodie fave Glenarty Road.
The best part – no TV: “For our family, we’ve found this is the best way to bring conversation, laughter, moments of connection and pockets of quiet and tranquillity to our stay,” says Hutchinson. “We hope our guests find the same.”
