Hungry for a win: What West Aussie Lotto players dine on after a big win

We always love to ask each other what our last meal would be, but what about our FIRST meal…

After a massive Lotto win that is!

Lotterywest‘s $30 million Mid-Year Megadraw is returning for the third year running on Saturday 29 June, offering West Aussies the chance to chase away the winter blues, whether you win it on your own, or sharing with a syndicate of family, friends or work colleagues.

To mark the occasion, we’re taking a look back at what some previous Division one winners have celebrated with dining wise, and the results are a real lucky dip!

Last year a Swan Valley family took home the $40 million Powerball prize, and after unknowingly walking around with the winning ticket in the ticket holder’s pocket for a week, celebrated with the humble fish and chips.

Sweet and sour, lawns for Oakford millionaire

Back in November 2021 a man from Oakford said his main focus will be to look after his family thanks to a Lotto Division One win, with this ticket bought from Byford Newsagency. However, the man in his 50’s did flag another first purchase: “I need a new lawn mower and I think we will buy some Chinese to celebrate.”

Cheap Chinese for dinner

After winning in late 2018, a millionaire winner from Media didn’t claim the prize until February of 2019! The family of five’s daughter bought the ticket from Medina Newsagency on a shopping trip, and “celebrated together with champagne, a lot of tears and cheap Chinese for dinner.”

From ramen to riches

Back in 2017 a Rivervale Saturday Lotto syndicate were lucky enough to snare around $800,000 in prize money, scoring one of five tickets sold nationally that saw the 12 of them pocket $66,000 each. A student in the syndicate who said money was tight and he survived on a diet of ramen, wasted no time in claiming his ticket. Visiting Lotterywest HQ first thing Monday morning, he laughed: “I contemplated camping outside of Lotterywest overnight… I wouldn’t let myself believe it until it had officially been confirmed.”

Champagne and chicken nuggets

In June of 2021 a Gnangara couple said they had no idea Lotterywest was looking for the owner of a winning Set for Life ticket, worth $20,000 a month for 20 years. The ticket from Wanneroo Winner’s Lotto Kiosk matched the numbers to the life-changing prize, with the search for the ticket dragging on for more than two weeks. “It had been in my wallet the whole time,” the winner said, adding that their first port of call was rather simple: “We’re celebrating with champagne and chicken nuggets.

Italian and a milkshake

In October the same year, a Byford man who dreamt of winning Monday Lotto turned that dream into reality after taking home the $1 million Lotto prize. The man, in his early 30’s, said he’d had the dream only a few weeks ago and had been buying a Monday Lotto ticket ever since. “We’ll celebrate tonight with an Italian meal,” he exclaimed, “and we’ve promised the kids a chocolate milkshake.”

All available profits from every Megadraw ticket will go back to the WA community in the form of Lotterywest grants, and you can pick up a Megadraw ticket until 6pm on June 29 in-store, online and via the Lotterywest App.
