Now that you’re whiling away the hours at home and the weather’s cooling, it’s the perfect opportunity to crack open a book. There’s only so much Netflix you can watch, after all.

Diabolik Books and Records

One of our favourite booksellers, full stop, Diabolik are now offering free delivery within a 3km radius of the Mount Hawthorn shop. While they don’t have an online store, their Facebook and Instagram pages are chockablock with staff recommendations in every genre, as well as plenty of records, games, puzzles and activities to keep you occupied. They even stock LifeCykel kits, so you can keep your quarantine kitchen lively with mushrooms, micro greens, or even a Save the Bees pollination grow kit.

Planet Books

Planet Books is an icon in Perth’s literary history. The home of everything a bit quirky from novels and magazines to fridge magnets, these guys also have an impressive range of games and puzzles to keep your quarantined household feeling competitive. They’ve got heaps of great reviews and recommendations on their socials to help you shop, otherwise you can give them a buzz to help you pick something out – if you live locally, they’ll even deliver it to you for free.

Beaufort Street Books

A local shop with an online store is honestly, such a double whammy of convenience. Browse online while supporting local? A dream come true. This delightful Beaufort Street gem is offering free home delivery within 5km of their store, or a flat rate of $5 for anywhere in WA. Whether you’re looking for a new cookbook, a historical tome or feel-good fiction, these guys will sort you out.

Rabble Books and Games

Rabble Books and Games have become a community pillar even in the relatively short time they’ve been open. Their range is impressively inclusive, particularly their children’s selection – which includes books with with racial and ethnic diversity, rainbow families and characters with disabilities. Earlier this month they launched the amazing Community Books program, allowing those experiencing financial instability to still access books while libraries are closed. As well as donations from publishers and the store itself, you can head to their online store to donate a book, make a financial donation to the book fund, or utilise the program yourself. Plus, they offer free delivery within a 10km radius – if you’re outside that radius and ask nicely, they can probably help you out, too.

New Edition

For those down Freo way, don’t panic. The beloved New Edition is also providing free local delivery, and are happy to post orders for those further afield. While they don’t have an online store, their website is a treasure trove for reviews and recommendations of their new stock, so you can confidently find your new favourite novel (or five).

Crow Books

And if you’re in Vic Park, chances are you’re in Crow’s delivery zone! Experts in everything from hard-to-find titles to best sellers, you’ll be sure to end up with something unexpected – with free home delivery for locals and postage available everywhere else.
