Picture this: you and your mates are sitting on a picnic rug on lush grass, surrounded by grapevines and shaded by jacaranda trees…

You’re making your way through a gourmet picnic hamper and woodfired pizzas as you’re sipping on white wine or rosé in the sun. Sounds pretty nice, right?

That’s exactly what you can do at Nikola Estate, a picture-perfect cellar door, restaurant and wedding venue in the heart of the Swan Valley only a half an hour’s drive from the Perth CBD.

Nikola Estate’s cellar door offers a fantastic range of wine-tasting experiences. If you’re keen to learn more about the wines on offer, you can opt for a guided wine flight, or you can add a cheese platter on top for an extra $5.

There’s also an Epicurean Wine Experience if you wish to level up your wine knowledge – make your way through premium wines while nibbling on a delicious selection of paired local and European cheeses.

Nikola Estate’s Head Winemaker, Damian Hutton, recently won Winemaker of the Year in Ray Jordan’s WA Wine Review 2023, so you know the vinos are top-notch.

The Nikola Estate Range will please all, but you can’t go past the Verdelho or Chenin Blanc if you’re a white wine lover – after all, these varieties are a Swan Valley speciality.

Looking for an unparalleled Swan Valley dining experience? Nikola Estate is now home to Woodcutters Restaurant – known for flame-cooked and charcoal-roasted dishes made with fresh WA ingredients that change with the season. Currently you’re looking at Shark Bay scallops, kangaroo with brown butter, Abrolhos Octopus, massive dry-aged steaks and gourmet pizzas, to name just a few.

If you want to treat yourself (or you’re indecisive like us), go for the five-course degustation and have the chef serve you up a five-course feast.

Weather beckoning you outside? Purchase a bottle of wine (or two) and throw down a picnic rug on the winery’s lawns, and you can order woodfired pizzas from the on-site restaurant (think toppings of nduja pork with smoked mozzarella or kingfish with pomegranate).

If leisurely snacking on cheese and olives is more your vibe try the Grazing Box, filled with charcuterie, pate, triple cream brie, crackers, marinated olives and dips. And if you really want to go all out, upgrade to the Gourmet Picnic Hamper, where you are given a picnic blanket, raised wooden board, picnic basket, crockery and cutlery for an extra $15.

If you’re reading all of this and thinking, ‘Gee, I wonder if they do weddings?’ You bet your recently-engaged butt they do – catering for ceremony and reception packages from 60 to 260 guests.

Whether you wish to tie the knot under the heritage-listed jacaranda trees, in the light-filled Vineyard Chapel (which is surrounded by Chardonnay vines) or enjoy a ceremony in the secret gardens, there is a charming space for all tastes.
