When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie… That’s amore! You know what’s even more amore? Enjoying that pizza pie in a picture-perfect location. In the spirit of this search for perfection, we’ve paired some of Perth’s best picnic locations with some particularly well-suited signature pizzas from the connoisseurs at Crust Pizza.

Margherita 1889, Boyeembarra Park Fremantle

Freo and Italian culture go together like tomatoes and basil – you can’t visit the Port City without feeling the Dolce Vita vibes. And what’s more classically Italian than a traditional margherita? Crust’s Margherita 1889 pairs buffalo mozzarella with cherry tomatoes and fresh basil for a timelessly tasty slice. Pick up a pie from Crust’s South Street store and find a cosy corner in the beautiful Boyeembarra Park – or South Beach is only a few minutes away for beachside pizza perfection.

Garlic Prawn, Mullaloo Beach

Of course, this is Perth – so we’ve got to start with a signature spectacular sunset beach picnic. Mullaloo certainly holds its own alongside Perth’s most impressive, so we think it’s only fitting to enjoy a bit of seafood while gazing wistfully into the mighty Indian Ocean. Grab a garlic prawn pizza from Crust Beldon and zip on down to the Mullaloo beach to enjoy the zesty spritz of that squeeze of fresh lemon with the salty sea air.

Truffle Beef Rossini, Claremont Foreshore

Claremont – which we’ve previously referred to as the “pointy end of the Golden Triangle” – is all about the bougie vibes. So why not indulge in an especially bougie pizza? We’re talking a medley of wild mushrooms, a decadent Béchamel base, premium beef, caramelised onions, fresh herbs, buffalo mozzarella and, the pièce de résistance: a drizzle of black truffle aioli. Head to the river and enjoy those million dollar views – Mrs Herberts Park boasts a waterfront vista over Freshwater Bay plus a playground and picnic facilities, or just perch at the end of Claremont jetty and enjoy the serenity.

VEGAN (not) Lamb Roast & Pomegranate, Hyde Park

We like to avoid too many cliches and generalisations, but we’d hazard a guess that there’s a healthy population of plant-based pals in the Mount Lawley, Highgate and North Perth neighbourhoods. Long gone are the days of lacklustre and limited vegan options – just check out this roasted “lamb” number, topped with rosemary, roasted sweet potato, Spanish onion, vegan mozzarella and a delicious drizzle of pomegranate glaze! If (not chicken) is more your flavour, the OG Peri Peri Chicken Pizza is also now available in a vegan version!

Szechuan Prawn, McCallum Park, Victoria Park

After too long neglecting the culinary delights of Vic Park, consider us converts. Exploring the length of Albany Highway means a visit to just about every continent’s cuisine, including plenty of stops through the flavours of Asia. Take your own delicious journey with Crust’s fiery Szechuan Chilli Prawn pizza, topped with spicy prawns and a sprinkling of fresh chilli – and keep the heat going with a side of Korean Gochujang Hot Wings. Dive into your dinner just down the road on the Swan River’s foreshore and enjoy the tranquil water and Perth city skyline.

Vietnamese Chilli Chicken, Frangipani Park, Alexander Heights

Perth’s north-eastern suburbs are a treasure trove for delicious Vietnamese, so we think it’s only natural that Alexander Heights’ Crust would be the spiritual home of the Vietnamese Chilli Chicken pizza, topped with a refreshing coriander and chilli slaw. Jump just across the road to enjoy the wide open space of Paloma Park, or venture into the pocket-sized, leafy surrounds of Frangipani Park just a few minutes away.

Crust Supreme, Subiaco Theatre Gardens

The well-heeled streets of Subiaco keep things pretty classic, so we reckon you should go for an old-school favourite with plenty of pizazz: Supreme, baby! Just like you’re spoiled with toppings, Subi’s lush parks means you’re spoiled for choice for picnicking spots. Head to the Theatre Gardens for shaded groves and hidden Giants, or to Subiaco Common for well-manicured lawns and water features.
