We’ve covered where to take your loudest, Chatty Cathy friends (check it out HERE), but what about your Softly-Spoken Sams? Whether you’re hard of hearing or just want to have a good yarn over dinner, we’ve found some of Perth’s most acoustically-approachable (read: not too loud!) restaurants.

Capri

Stepping into Capri’s dining room feels a little like stepping back in time – evoking the bustling streets of ‘50s Freo and its Italianate glory. The family run restaurant is part of the fabric of Fremantle; now helmed by the fourth generation of Pizzales, it’s as good as ever – if not getting better by the day. While the streets outside are bustling, the dining room levels remain at a dignified, conversational level – even when packed!

Twenty Seats

After closing shop at Shenton Park’s iconic Petite Mort, chef Todd Stuart has opened a new venture in Highgate, Twenty Seats. As its name would suggest, the restaurant only hosts 20 diners each night for its meticulous 10-course tasting menu, allowing for a phenomenal level of attentiveness from the entire team – and an appropriately subdued level of noise, of course.

Balthazar

Approaching Balthazar’s mysterious, practically medieval door is just the type of anticipation-building we hope for when it comes to an opulent dining experience – and bodes well for an acoustically considered evening. Balthazar manages to strike the balance between thoughtful precision and laissez-faire decadence, with a tasting menu that showcases the best of WA produce. Book the private wine room if you really want to get into the hot goss!

Andly

Andly Private Kitchen may be one of West Leederville’s best-kept secrets. Although Andly has been open since 2015, it’s seldom talked about in the same buzzy way that many other (often less-deserving) eateries do. The refined, always-changing degustation menu traverses through the Chinese provinces, utilising the best WA produce on offer, and its cosy interior means your dining experience is always intimate.

La Madonna Nera

Offering a delightfully intimate dining experience, La Madonna Nera is pairing some truly delectable libations with a snack game that’s hard to beat. Nuovo-Italian vibes abound, both on the plate and in the glass – with a new Chef-in-Residence program that allows visiting chefs to put their own spins on the restaurant’s offerings.

Shadow Wine Bar

Shadow Wine Bar has the glamour and intrigue of an Italian film star. The decor is inviting rather than intimidating, with the dimly lit dining room lending an intimacy to your meal – aided by the billowing, enticing columns of white linen rising into the grand, vaulted industrial ceiling.

Harry’s At Conti

The folks at Harry’s take precision to the next level, with some meticulously crafted meals coming out of this classic French-influenced kitchen. Located at Paul Conti Wines, the old-school, white-linen eatery pairs its meticulous plates with a dining room suited to conversation.

Fleur

Fleur is a no-brainer when you want to enjoy a special meal with a special someone. While the sumptuous dining room (and menu) is conducive enough to conversation, the opulent private dining room is the perfect spot if there’s a few of you wanting to chat. If you’re feeling bold, the private karaoke room is just down the hall…
