Like a swan rising from the ashes: Swan Gold sign returns to The Raffles after a 20 year hiatus
One of Perth’s most iconic riverside venues is returning to its roots next week, as The Raffles Hotel in Applecross welcomes an equally iconic West Aussie back to its visage.
That’s right, after a 20 year hiatus, the Swan Draught sign will make its triumphant return to The Raffles, overlooking its namesake river once again.
The venue group in charge of The Raffles, Australian Venue Co. (AVC), are so excited about the return that they’ll be offering $8 pints of Swan Draught at all AVC venues from August 15 until the end of September 2024.
Swan Draught’s popularity in WA only goes from strength to strength, especially since its parent company Lion shifted production back to WA in 2022, with all Swan Draught kegs now being brewed in Fremantle.
“Swan and The Raffles Hotel have a long and intertwined history, both being iconic institutions in Western Australia,” said WA Field Sales Director for Lion, Danny Connolly.
“The return of the Swan sign to The Raffles Hotel is a momentous occasion that not only celebrates our shared heritage but also reaffirms our commitment to the WA community.”
Most recently The Raffles has been adorned with the Asahi Super Dry sign, though it has chopped and changed over the years, including a stint with Crown Lager (below), while the front-facing Raffles sign still has Victoria Bitter underneath it.

Swan Draught boasts 815 distribution points across our golden state, with an annual output of 5,566,000 litres sold – nearly 10 million pints of Swan Draught are enjoyed in WA each year.
“The return of the Swan sign is a nostalgic reminder of our shared history and serves as a testament to the enduring relationship between two WA icons,” added Raffles Hotel Venue Manager, Simone Rea.
“We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this special occasion and raising a glass to the enduring legacy of Swan.”
The new Swan Golf sign’s lights will be officially switched on next Thursday.
