15 of the best fried chicken burgers in Perth

Fried chicken burgers are always a good alternative to the classic meat and bun combo, and have been growing in popularity in recent times. And any burger joint worth its (chicken) salt will do a ripper fried chicken option – here’s a few of our faves:
Goldbird
At the end of 2022 Freo scored an extra gift just before Christmas: the arrival of Goldbird – which we’d happily take over a shiny new present under the tree. The venture is the latest from Short Order founder Simon Kony, and the nostalgic little chicken diner is serving up some of the best fried gold we’ve ever tasted!

3 Cantonment Street, Fremantle
St. Brigid
We know what you’re thinking – what’s a cool little wine bar in Doubleview doing on a list about fried chicken burgers? Well let us tell you – St. Brigid‘s Fried Chicken Sandwich is elite. It’s not massive, has an oh-so-sweet maple glaze thing going on, and legitimately took this hungover scribe’s breath away after indulging one recent sunny, hungover Saturday afternoon. Haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

257 Scarborough Beach Road, Doubleview
Signature Sando, Drasko’s Hot Chicken
Since opening, Drasko’s has practically caused a frenzy amongst fried chicken lovers of Perth – and boy does the Signature Sando warrant a spot on this list. The fresh, local ingredients that go into the mix set the stage for beautiful, Nashville-inspired flavour hit, but it’s when you ramp up the heat that your taste buds really start singing. Extra double bonus points for having a dedicated gluten free friendly fryer – the fried chicken burger is a luxury not often afforded to our gluten free friends!

148 Scarborough Beach Road, Mount Hawthorn
Chicken Burger, Short Order Burger Co.
Short Order‘s special sauce + sriracha combo on their simple-yet-beaut fried chicken burger makes for a pretty irresistible option whenever you pop in at their CBD or new Freo store. But it’s also got to do with their chicken hookup, somehow always having the biggest chicken patties going around. Alright we’re done here, time for lunch!

800 Hay Street, Perth
3 William Street, Fremantle
Tender Mash Gravy, Hoodburger
Hoodburger have a delicious selection of fried chicken tender options, but for something a little different may we humbly point you to the Tender Mash & Gravy burg. It’s a little bit naughty, featuring only cheese, mash potato, gravy and fried chicken inside a pillowy bun, but it makes for a sneaky little treat every now and then.

848 Beaufort Street, Inglewood
123 James Street, Northbridge
31 Kearns Crescent, Ardross
330 Pinjarra Road, Mandurah
The Cluck Cluck Boom, Meet & Bun
The Cluck Cluck Boom is the not so secret off the menu burger from Meet & Bun. It is one of our favourite fried chicken burgers in Perth. The southern style fried chicken topped with cheese and bacon provides a prominent backbone. This is accompanied by house made chilli sauce, slaw, fresh tomatoes, red onion and jalapeños. The balance between fresh flavour and spice is what really makes this stand out from the rest.

72 St Georges Terrace, Perth
Beaux Lane, Mount Lawley
3 Cantonment Street, Fremantle
The Chicky Babe Burger, Juicy Buns
Juicy Buns have provided us with one of the tastiest and unique fried chicken burgers available in Perth. The focal point of the Chicky Babe burger is once the chicken has been deep fried to perfection, it is immediately dipped into Juicy Buns sweet sticky sauce. The sauce covers the chicken and packs a huge punch of flavour. The aioli, cheese, pickles and veggies balances out the sweetness of the sauce perfectly.

8/19-21 Tribute Street W, Shelley
The Double Chicken Royal, RoyAl’s
RoyAls Chicken and Burgers is home to some of Perth’s best fried chicken, so it is without a doubt that they make our top 5 fried chicken burgers. The Double Chicken Royal is one of our favourite burgers. The buttermilk chicken is always thick, juicy and tender, it satisfies all the fried chicken cravings you have. It is a simple burger made extremely well.

1/334 Cambridge Street, Wembley
The Spiced Bird, 3230
3230 Smoke + Grill have provided the southern suburbs of Perth with brilliant burgers over the past couple of years. The Spiced Bird is their standout fried chicken burger for us. The coleslaw with spice chipotle mayo deliverers plenty of flavour. The serving of chicken is generous and it always has a good crunch to it. They also toast their buns to perfection, providing an added bit of crunch to every bite.

Shop 2/262 Canning Highway, Como
6/5 Armadale Road, Jandakot
Fried Chicken Burger, PICA Bar
Simple elegance is the key when it comes to PICA Bar‘s fried chicken burger – an absolute stunner. The chicken is as impossibly juicy as the skin is crispy. The secret weapon is the little dill pickles that always seem to pop up in the last few bites for a surprise treat at the end, and the ever so subtle hint of spice in the mayo.
51 James Street, Northbridge
The Buttermilk Fried Chicken Burger, Tbsp
We accidentally stumbled across Tbsp. when we were out Bayswater way, and we are super stoked that we did. Tbsp. is not a burger restaurant, rather a trendy little café with some of the best ratings in all of Perth. Their buttermilk fried chicken is everything you want your fried chicken to be – thick, juicy and with a crisp and flavoursome batter. It is a simple burger, with just slaw and pickles in a brioche bun, but these fillings make way for the fried chicken to shine. The generous serve of chips will ensure you won’t leave hungry and their coffee is always on point.

10 King William Street, Bayswater
OG Chicken Burger, Chimek
Chimek have been running the fried chicken game in Perth for years now, and being a little ahead of the curve means they’ve got the burger game on lock. As such it’s hard to go past their tried and tested OG Chicken Burger. The sneaky jalapeños keep things lively, their potato milk buns are some of the lightest, fluffiest in Perth, and their cheese sauce is the perfect capper.

77A James Street, Northbridge
818 Albany Highway, East Victoria Park
4/1 Holmes Street, Southern River
Local Bird
After earning legions of local fans, Local Bird has become a name we can barely go a day without hearing. With some practically pornographic burgers, we’re not surprised they’ve created such a furore. Smashed patties are beaten to within an inch of their life, and stacked with more queso than you can even comprehend. That chicken has the crispiest, crunchiest coating you ever did see. We’ve broken out into a sweat just thinking about it, to be honest.

1/91 Wanneroo Road, Tuart Hill
Smash Grill
An ode to classic midwestern American burgers, Smash Grill are truly nailing the basics. After a long intermission awaiting the opening of FOMO, Smash Grill are finally back, and we couldn’t be happier. Succulent smashed patties, oh-so-crispy fried chicken, all sandwiched between the GOAT buns, Martin’s Famous Potato Rolls… Well, gosh – that’s worth waiting for.

FOMO, G07, 10 William Street, Fremantle
Archie’s Hot Chicken
Perth loves a pop-up, and Archie’s is well worth waiting in line for. Classically Nashville-style, you can take things from an oh-so-approachable medium all the way up to FU Hot, if you dare. Whether it’s spicy or not, you know it’ll be super juicy on the inside and crispy AF on the outside, just as it should be.
