Meat wrapped in pastry… name a more iconic duo. Here’s some of our top spots for a sausage roll in Perth.

Teeter Bakery

We firmly maintain that Perth’s very own superstar baker Tash Brownfield can do no wrong – and her itty-bitty Claisebrook bakery Teeter is definitive proof (pardon the pun). These pastries are mind-bendingly good, and her sausage rolls and almost shockingly flaky pies (laminated with Pepe Saya whey butter) are no exception. Words nor photos can really convey these pastries: you’ll just need to get up early and taste them for yourself.

Winnie’s Bakehouse

Winnie’s have been quietly slaying the game when it comes to Rockingham’s baked goodies. Just a short stroll from the foreshore (and their sister store, Jaffelato), their cakes, tarts and other treats are next-level – but our sweet tooths have been overpowered by the deliciousness of not just their pies, but their great sausage rolls. They nail a classic sausage roll, but we dare you to resist the call of their cheeseburger-inspired take!

3A Kent Street, Rockingham

Meat & Mains

Perth’s first chef-owned butcher, Meat & Mains sell restaurant-grade, sustainable and locally-sourced produce. Their produce will transform your home-cooked dinners into something truly special – or grab one of their pre-prepared meals and make weeknights even easier. Their hot cabinet is a true thing of beauty, and if you can resist one of their amazing daily lunch specials, you’ll be well rewarded with one of their girthy, golden, succulent sausage rolls.

North Street Store

It really seems as if North Street Store have the golden touch! From their now-famous cinnamon scrolls, to their next-level sandwiches, and now their sausage roll. These buttery, flaky bad boys are porky, fennely goodness. Lucky for us, along with their cinny scrolls, they’re now available across the ever expanding NSS empire, as well as stocked at cafes across Perth.

Daisies

You can’t help but feel that it’s summertime when you’re at Daisies. These guys claim to be the “best in the West” when it comes to sausage rolls (do we detect a smidgen of healthy competition?), and the morning crowds will agree: a post swim snack of a Daisies sausage roll is hard to beat.

Marco’s Fussy Meats

You’ve just got to take one look at a Fussy Meats sausage roll (or pie!) to know you’ve got something special in your hands (and heart). While their pastry is spectacularly buttery and enticingly flakey, the interior is equally mouth-watering, with meat befitting such a fussy connoisseur.

Goods Bakery

We’re pretty obsessed with the very aptly-named Goods – whether we’re popping in for a pepperoni-topped slice of focaccia or a decadent pastry. The West Leederville spot has been cooked up by the crew at Modus – it serves as the central bakery for the group’s three other cafes, as well as a stellar destination of its own. Pastries are next level (in particular the limited-edition croissants!), and a sweet, restrained retro fitout completes the vibe. Make sure to grab a homemade chutney for the road.

Last Crumb Cake Co.

You’ll be eating every crumb of the goodies that come out of Last Crumb Cake Co. in Bassendean. Their cakes are Insta-worthy showstoppers, but you’ll also find it hard to resist their equally gorg sausage rolls that are consistently named amongst Perth’s best – even by those less swayed by aesthetics!

P.Princi Butchers

After over 60 years in the biz, Princi’s know a thing or two about quality. The same succulent meat that has made them one of Perth’s most sought-after butchers has been delicately ensconced within golden, flakey pastry to great effect, and gaining them plenty of fans in the process – ourselves included.

258 Canning Highway, Bicton

CJ’s Gourmet Butchers

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt in our sausage roll and pie-loving quests, it’s that a great butcher is normally a safe bet – and CJ’s is no exception to that rule! The Ocean Reef butcher is a local go-to for all things meat, and their sausage rolls remain a firm favourite for a cheeky on-the-go lunch.

Mary Street Bakery

Mary Street is now almost synonymous with bakeries in Perth. With their ever expanding list of locations, it’s comforting to know that no matter where you are, their sausage rolls can’t be all that far away. Whether it’s their classic pork and fennel, the lamb variant or their spinach and ricotta option, these giant rolls go reeeally well with a doughnut. Better yet – convince the boss that a box is a really necessary addition to your next meeting.

Various locations

Butter Crumbs

After a brief 18-month stint in Inglewood, Butter Crumbs has finally moved into a permanent space in Mount Lawley – and it couldn’t have come soon enough. Baking in small batches, there’s a reason they’ve been a cult hit since their early days at the Mount Claremont Farmers’ Market. Comforting pies (both sweet and savoury) are a must, as is the burnt Basque cheesecake, and you’ll also see some pretty tempting seasonal offerings. Us, though? We always find it hard to resist their perfectly golden sausage rolls.

Wild Bakery

This super popular South Freo bakery has earned heaps of fans through their sourdough breads and market pop up stalls, but Wild’s sausage rolls are amazing in their own right. Sizeable rolls with pork and fennel filling, and a super flaky pastry crust – these are worth going out of your way for.

346 South Terrace, South Fremantle

Chez Jean-Claude Patisserie

Swiss bakery Jean-Claude’s has become somewhat of a Perth institution, operating out of its Subiaco bakery since 1997. And while they do a ripper traditional sausage roll, the German sausage – a smoked Schubling pork sausage wrapped in pastry – takes things to the next level.

333 Rokeby Road, Subiaco
26 Oxford Close, West Leederville

Ethos Deli + Dining Room

Ethos have been knocking it out of the park since opening in 2020, just down the road from sibling venue Young George. We find it pretty hard to go past their sandwiches (one of our favourites), but if you can resist, you’ll be richly rewarded by their game-changing, decadent duck sausage roll.

88 George Street, East Fremantle

Oushk

The heartbeat of Palmyra’s big warm and welcoming community vibes, Oushk offers a mouthwatering hint of Middle Eastern vibes, with their sausage rolls no different. These big, flavourful boys will keep you fuelled for whatever your day throws at you.

61A Carrington St, Palmyra

The Clean Food Store

Fair enough, a clean food store probably isn’t the number one place we’d expect to find such a good sausage roll – but luckily, we’re always prepared to be surprised. The Clean Food Store does a ripper roll, with flaky pastry and a considerable filling – all organic, of course!

214A Nicholson Road, Subiaco

Kwinana Cafe

You wouldn’t expect a high-brow, pretentious sausage roll out of Kwinana, and that’s not what you’re going to get. Instead, you’ll find an absolute classic, made to perfection. These homemade goodies sell out quick, so if you’re in there area and you’ve got a hankering, make sure to get there early.

Kings Eurostyle Bakery

We’re not sticklers when it comes to semantics, which is just one reason Kings’ burek absolutely needs a special mention. These guys are experts when it comes to any meat and pastry combo – actually, when it comes to just about any baked good. Make sure to go on an empty stomach, as you’ll probably be tempted by one of everything.

6/12 Harrison Street, Balcatta

Boatshed Market

Sometimes you just need to connect to a more bougie side of yourself. While just stepping inside the Boatshed can feel aspirational, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy Australia’s favourite blue-collar food there. The Boatshed’s bakery (and let’s be honest, the whole store) is pretty impressive from the get-go, and their sausie rolls certainly follow suit – crafted in-store with classic flavours of pork, fennel and apple, they’re worth their weight in gold.
