With FringeWorld’s mammoth program, it can be overwhelming trying to pick a show – but STATE OF PLAY is going to be one of the ultimate Fringe destinations this summer.

Taking place at the glimmering State Theatre Centre Of WA, you’ll get to experience the venue as never before. Right in the middle of the action in Northbridge, you’re surrounded by world class restaurants and bars – although you won’t have to travel far, with the STATE OF PLAY bars concocting some delightful pre-show cocktails along with plenty of non-alcoholic drinks options and nibbles.

But you’re not just here for the drinks, are you? You’re here for the entertainment! And STATE OF PLAY has it in spades. The 2022 program champions local theatre producers, comedians, musicians and artists, telling stories from a diverse lineup of talent.

State Of Play

Enjoy some hot jazz on those hot nights, with some big New Orleans brass band energy from the Hot 6 Brass Band, or some spicy Cuban sounds from maestro Mohamed Builo Michel and the Cuban Young Guns.

There’s plenty of comedy to keep you giggling all night, including BANGTOWN!, Improvv DND, new work from theatre-maker Michelle Aitken, a cross-cultural wedding extravaganza from Dr Ahmed and loads more.

The young ones can get in on the fun, too – with a huge line up of kid-friendly shows. Ages 3+ can have a magical immersive experience with Wilbur The Optical Whale, an interactive and accessible performance set in a wondrous underwater world. Elliot’s Big Nose and the Snot That It Grows is perfect for any kids (or grown ups!) who love all things gross, while Little Bangers! is bringing big sounds and even bigger laughs with an improvised musical family Fiesta.
