Prepare to be swept off your feet by the grandeur and seduction of one of the world’s most famous love stories this spring, in an Australian premiere…

Romeo & Juliet is coming to town, and it’s bringing all the drama, romance, and tragedy that we know and love, reimagined through the ultimate physical expression of ballet.

West Australian Ballet is bringing a whole new take on Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers for a limited season at The ‘Maj from August 30-September 14, choreographed by the acclaimed Andrea Schermoly.

Originally for the Royal New Zealand Ballet, this version is portrayed through a fresh female perspective, offering an intense portrayal of Juliet’s fierce independence, tenacity, and willfulness, breathing new life into the classic tale.

Of course, a production like this isn’t complete without breathtaking visuals, and the West Australian Ballet isn’t holding back, with stunning costume and set designs by none other than three-time Academy Award winner James Acheson.

His impressive resume includes work on blockbusters such as Sam Raimi’s Spiderman trilogy and The Last Emperor – promising a visual spectacle that will transport you straight to the heart of Verona.

The magic will be brought to life by the West Australian Philharmonic Orchestra’s live performance of Sergei Prokofiev’s dramatic and emotive score – considered one of the greatest ballet compositions of all time.

Always open to positive change, West Australian Ballet also has intimacy coach Jayne Smeulders joining the production to ensure performer safety and respect are top priorities.

Tickets start at just $30 for under 30s, and you can grab yours via tickets.waballet.com.au/events/romeo-juliet.
